| Origin | |
| The African Shorthair originated in the forests of Sokoke, Kenya, where it was known as the Khadzonzo. The first Khadzonzos were brought to Denmark in the 1970s: Gloria Moldrup brought two kittens back from a cattery that her friend Jeni Slater had set up in Kenya. She then began importing more regularly from this cattery in the 1980s. The breed was named the African Shorthair in 1983 and approved by the Fédération Internationale Féline in 1993. It is also know as the Sokoke. | |
