| This breed’s origin is revealed in its name – Zambia was formerly Rhodesia. This heritage is further supported by the other names for this breed – African Lion Hound. Ancestors of this breed were believed to have hunted alongside tribesmen as early as the 15th century. In the 19th century European settlers bred the forefathers of the Rhodesian Ridgeback with Mastiff-type dogs and this formed the breed that we recognize today. | |
