Historically, canines within this category were employed in the hunting of vermin and this is reflected in the Group’s name – ‘Terrier’ derives from the Latin word ‘Terra’, which means ‘earth’. All those in this Group are robust and courageous little creatures with a long heritage behind them. Most breeds are also indigenous to Britain.
